Overview

Deven Verma (23 October 1937 – 2 December 2014) was an Indian film and television actor, best known for his comic roles in Hindi cinema. Over his career, he worked with several leading Bollywood directors, including Basu Chatterji, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Gulzar.

Apart from acting, Verma was also active behind the camera as a producer and director. Among the films associated with him in this capacity is Besharam.

Verma received the Filmfare Best Comedian Award on multiple occasions, for his performances in Chori Mera Kaam, Chor Ke Ghar Chor and Angoor. These wins underline his standing as one of the prominent character actors in Hindi cinema specialising in comedy.
