Delhi Public School Guwahati is a school located in Guwahati, the largest city of the Indian state of Assam and the largest metropolis in northeastern India. The school takes its name from the city in which it is situated.

Location and setting

The school is located in Guwahati, a major riverine port city situated on the south bank of the Brahmaputra River, between the banks of the river and the foothills of the Shillong plateau. Guwahati, formerly known as Gauhati, is widely described as the "gateway to North East India" and is one of the fastest growing cities in the country.

Dispur, the capital of Assam and the seat of the Government of Assam, lies within Guwahati in the circuit city region. The city is served by Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, the busiest airport in Assam and the North-East of India.

Civic context

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation administers an area of 523 square kilometres (202 sq mi), while the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) functions as the planning and development body for the Greater Guwahati Metropolitan Area. The city is also historically and culturally significant, with the ancient cities of Pragjyotishpura and Durjaya (North Guwahati) having served as capitals of the ancient state of Kamarupa. Owing to the presence of numerous ancient Hindu temples, including the Kamakhya Temple and the Navagraha Temple, Guwahati is also known as "The City of Temples".
