Background
The university was established as the University of Gorakhpur to cater to the higher education needs of the Gorakhpur division and surrounding regions of Purvanchal. It was later renamed in honour of Deen Dayal Upadhyay, the political thinker associated with the philosophy of Integral Humanism.
