Career

Early and domestic career

Wiese made his first-class debut in October 2005 and has since made 67 first-class appearances. His early performances in first-class cricket helped establish him as a capable all-rounder in the South African domestic system.

South Africa

His breakthrough form earned him selection for South Africa at the 2009 Hong Kong Cricket Sixes, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. He was also picked for a South Africa Invitation XI in two matches against England. He went on to represent South Africa in international cricket from 2013 to 2016, before formally ending his South African career in 2017 in order to pursue opportunities in county cricket.

Namibia

Wiese made his international debut for Namibia in October 2021, taking advantage of his Namibian eligibility through his father. His arrival added significant international and franchise experience to the Namibian side.

Franchise cricket

Wiese has been an active participant in franchise leagues around the world. He currently plays for the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League.

Playing style

Wiese is regarded as a hard-hitting lower-order batter capable of changing the course of limited-overs matches in the closing overs. As a bowler, he is particularly noted for his use of slower balls, a skill that has made him an effective death-overs option in Twenty20 cricket.

Significance

Wiese's career illustrates the increasing mobility of cricketers between national teams and franchise leagues in the modern era. His move from South Africa, a Full Member nation, to Namibia, an Associate nation, brought experienced international quality to Namibian cricket, while his sustained presence in leagues such as the Pakistan Super League reflects the global nature of contemporary T20 careers.
