Overview

The Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC), also known as DU CIC, is a Government of India-funded centre established under the aegis of the University of Delhi. It was founded in 2011 with the aim of promoting innovation as a structured area of academic study within higher education in India.

The Centre was set up by Prof. Dinesh Singh, who was then serving as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi. Under his leadership, CIC introduced innovation as a credit-based course for the first time in India, integrating it into the formal university curriculum rather than treating it as an extracurricular activity.

By embedding innovation within a credit framework, the Centre sought to encourage interdisciplinary learning and applied problem-solving among students of the University of Delhi. Its establishment reflected a broader effort to align Indian higher education with practice-oriented and project-based approaches to teaching and learning.
