Background

Soper was born in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, to a Papua New Guinean mother and a New Zealand father. He grew up on the Central Coast of New South Wales in Australia, where he was raised and developed as a cricketer before going on to represent Papua New Guinea at the international level.

Significance

As a member of the Papua New Guinea cricket setup, Soper is part of a generation of players representing one of the leading Associate cricketing nations in the East Asia-Pacific region. Papua New Guinea has been a member of the International Cricket Council since 1973 and has progressively expanded its presence in international limited-overs cricket.
