Overview
The Central University of Kerala (CUKerala) is a public central university located in Periya, on the Tejaswini Hills, in the Kasaragod district of Kerala, India. Kasaragod is the northernmost district of the state, and the main campus lies about 9.8 kilometres from Kanhangad and roughly 20 kilometres south of Kasaragod town.
The university was established under The Central Universities Act, 2009, a parliamentary legislation that created fifteen central universities across India for the purposes of teaching and research. CUKerala is one of the institutions established under this Act.
In its initial phase, the university began functioning from a temporary campus at Vidyanagar, which housed its schools of humanities along with other academic and administrative facilities, before activities expanded to the main site at Periya.
