Background

Bhaskaran was part of the generation of Indian domestic cricketers who played in the decades following India's elevation as a Test-playing nation. Domestic cricket in his era was organised primarily around the Ranji Trophy, the inter-zonal Duleep Trophy (introduced in 1961–62), and the Irani Trophy (introduced in 1959–60), all administered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Career context

First-class cricket in India during this period was typically structured on a state and zonal basis, with players representing their home associations in the Ranji Trophy and earning selection to zonal sides for the Duleep Trophy. Players in this circuit formed the talent pool from which Test selections were drawn.

Significance

As a domestic-level cricketer of the 1960s era, Bhaskaran is among the many Indian first-class players whose careers contributed to the development of regional cricket in India before the sport's commercial expansion in later decades.
