CEED

Overview

The Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is a joint entrance examination for post-graduate studies in the field of technological design in India. It is conducted annually at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The examination is hosted by the Industrial Design Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

CEED is a descriptive test that assesses a candidate's logical, creative, observational and drawing skills. It serves as a qualifying examination for admission to a range of post-graduate design programmes, including product design, industrial design, visual communication, animation graphics, vehicle design and mobility.

A valid CEED score is used by participating institutions for admission to various post-graduate design programmes. The disciplines for which CEED qualification is relevant include product design, industrial design, visual communication, animation graphics, vehicle design and mobility. As the examination is descriptive in nature, it places emphasis on a candidate's ability to articulate ideas through drawing and reasoning, in addition to assessing observational and creative aptitude.

Related examination

A separate examination, the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED), exists for admission to undergraduate design programmes. UCEED has different qualifying criteria from CEED, reflecting its focus on candidates seeking entry at the undergraduate level rather than post-graduate study.
