Bijbehara railway station

Bijbehara railway station is a railway station serving the town of Bijbehara in the Anantnag district of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It lies on the Banihal–Baramulla line, the railway corridor that runs through the Kashmir Valley as part of the larger Jammu–Baramulla rail link project of Indian Railways.

Location

The station is situated in Bijbehara, a town on the banks of the Jhelum River, located south of Srinagar and north of Anantnag on the route through the southern Kashmir Valley. The town is connected by road to the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway.

Background

The station forms part of the Kashmir Valley railway network developed by Indian Railways to connect the valley with the rest of the Indian rail system. The valley section, running broadly between Banihal in the south and Baramulla in the north, was constructed in phases as part of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, a national project of the Ministry of Railways.
