Bihta railway station is a railway station serving the town of Bihta in the Patna district of the Indian state of Bihar. It lies on the Patna–Mughalsarai section of the Howrah–Delhi main line and is operated by the East Central Railway zone of Indian Railways.

Overview

The station functions as a halt for several passenger and express trains running between Patna and the eastern stretch of the Howrah–Delhi corridor. It is one of the intermediate stations between Danapur and Ara, and serves commuters, students and residents of Bihta and surrounding villages.

Location and connectivity

Bihta is situated to the west of Patna, the state capital, along National Highway 19 (formerly NH 30). The town has grown as a satellite location for educational and industrial activity, including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna campus at Bihta and an upcoming airport facility being developed at the existing Bihta air force station. The railway station provides rail-based access for these institutions in addition to road connectivity.

Services

The station handles a mix of MEMU and passenger services along the Patna–Buxar–Mughalsarai route, along with halts of selected mail and express trains. It is primarily used as a commuter station for travel towards Patna Junction and Ara Junction.

Significance

With the development of IIT Patna at Bihta, the expansion of industrial estates in the area, and the planned civil enclave at Bihta airport, the station has gained importance as a transit point for the western suburbs of the Patna metropolitan region.
