Background

The station forms part of the railway network operated by the North Eastern Railway zone of Indian Railways. It lies on the broad-gauge line linking Varanasi City with Aunrihar Junction, a section that traverses the urban and peri-urban fringes of Varanasi before extending into the wider eastern Uttar Pradesh rail grid.

As a wayside halt, Bhulanpur primarily caters to local passenger traffic and short-distance commuters travelling to and from Varanasi. Long-distance express and mail trains generally do not halt here, and the station's role is largely confined to passenger and MEMU services.

Geography and surroundings

Bhulanpur lies in the western part of Varanasi district. The station is located close to residential and industrial pockets of the city and provides rail access for commuters who would otherwise depend on the busier Varanasi Junction or Banaras stations.

Significance

Although modest in size and infrastructure, Bhulanpur contributes to suburban connectivity within Varanasi by providing a halt for local trains on the Varanasi City–Aunrihar route. Stations of this kind play an important role in decongesting the principal terminals of the city and facilitating short-distance rail travel for residents.
