Location and setting

The station lies on the branch line between Karjat Junction and Khopoli, which forms the south-eastern end of the Central Line of the Mumbai Suburban network. The surrounding region is hilly, lying in the foothills of the Sahyadri range. The station is widely used as the access point for the Bhivpuri waterfalls and for treks to nearby forts and ridges in the monsoon season.

Close to the station is the Bhivpuri hydroelectric power station, one of the units of the Tata Power generation complex in the Western Ghats, which is supplied with water through penstocks from the lakes on the upper plateau.

Services

The station is served primarily by suburban EMU services running on the Karjat–Khopoli shuttle, with through services connecting to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus via Karjat. Long-distance express and mail trains on the main Mumbai–Pune route do not halt at Bhivpuri Road, as they diverge from the Karjat–Khopoli branch at Karjat to ascend the Bhor Ghat.

Significance

While a small wayside halt in terms of passenger volume, Bhivpuri Road is notable for two reasons: it provides rail connectivity to the Bhivpuri hydroelectric facility and the nearby villages, and it is one of the most used stations by trekkers and weekend visitors heading to the waterfalls and forts of the Matheran-Karjat region during the south-west monsoon.
