Overview
Bharathidasan Road metro station is a planned station on the Orange Line of the Chennai Metro rapid transit system, being constructed as part of the second phase of the network's expansion in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. The station takes its name from Bharathidasan Road, a thoroughfare named after the Tamil poet Bharathidasan (1891–1964).

Background
The Chennai Metro is operated by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu. The first phase, comprising the Blue and Green lines, commenced services in 2015. The Phase II expansion, sanctioned to significantly enlarge the network, comprises three new corridors designated as the Orange Line (Corridor 3), the Red Line (Corridor 4) and the Purple Line (Corridor 5).
The Orange Line
The Orange Line, also referred to as Corridor 3, is being developed as a long north–south corridor traversing several major neighbourhoods of Chennai. The line is planned to integrate with the existing Phase I network through interchange stations, improving last-mile connectivity across the metropolitan area. Bharathidasan Road metro station is one of the intermediate stations on this corridor.
Significance
As a Phase II station, Bharathidasan Road is intended to expand mass-transit access in central Chennai, reducing dependence on road-based transport and complementing other public transport options such as the Chennai Suburban Railway and the MTC bus network. The station is named after Bharathidasan, a major figure in modern Tamil literature and a close associate of Subramania Bharati.
