Bharat Ram (1914–2007) was an Indian industrialist associated with the Delhi Cloth & General Mills (DCM) group of companies. He belonged to one of north India's prominent business families and was active in Indian industry and trade associations during the second half of the twentieth century.

Background

Bharat Ram came from the family that controlled the DCM group, a diversified Indian industrial enterprise with origins in textile manufacturing in Delhi. The group expanded over the twentieth century into chemicals, sugar, engineering and other lines of business, and members of the family played leading roles in its management.

Career

Bharat Ram spent his career in industry, holding senior positions within the DCM group. He was also active in industry bodies that represented Indian business interests during the period of post-independence economic planning and liberalisation.

Significance

As a long-serving member of the Indian industrial establishment, Bharat Ram was part of a generation of business leaders who oversaw the transition of family-run Indian enterprises through the regulated economy of the mid-twentieth century. The DCM group with which he was associated remains a recognised name in Indian industrial history.
