Overview

The station forms part of Corridor II of the Hyderabad Metro, the Green Line, which links the northern suburb of Secunderabad with the central transit hub at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS). It provides metro access to the residential and commercial neighbourhoods around Bharat Nagar and adjoining areas in the Kukatpally–Moosapet belt of western Hyderabad.

Background

The Hyderabad Metro is implemented as a public–private partnership between the Government of Telangana and L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited, a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro. The project was conceived to ease congestion across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and is operated under the supervision of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), the special purpose vehicle of the state government.

The Green Line was planned as the shortest of the three corridors of the network, and was opened in stages after the inauguration of the Red and Blue lines. The section connecting JBS Parade Ground with MGBS, on which Bharat Nagar metro station is located, completed the originally planned Phase I network of the Hyderabad Metro.

Station layout

Like other stations on the Green Line, Bharat Nagar is built as an elevated structure above the road carriageway. A typical layout consists of a street-level entrance, a concourse level with ticketing, fare gates and security screening, and a platform level above with two side platforms serving trains in both directions.

Significance

The station improves last-mile connectivity for residents of Bharat Nagar and surrounding colonies, and offers an alternative to road transport for journeys towards Secunderabad in the north and the central business district served by MGBS in the south. It also functions as a feeder point for bus and auto-rickshaw services operating in western Hyderabad.
