Bhadrachalam Road railway station (station code: BDCR) is an Indian Railways station located at Kothagudem in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana. Despite its name, the station does not lie in the temple town of Bhadrachalam itself but serves as the principal railhead for visitors to Bhadrachalam, which is situated roughly 40 kilometres away on the banks of the Godavari river.

Location and setting

The station lies in Kothagudem, an industrial town known for the coal mining operations of Singareni Collieries Company Limited. It is one of the busiest stations in the Khammam–Kothagudem belt and acts as a transit point for pilgrims, coal traffic and passengers travelling between coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Chhattisgarh.

Connectivity

Bhadrachalam Road is connected by rail to major junctions including Vijayawada, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. The line continues beyond the station towards Manuguru, serving the Singareni coal belt. Road transport from the station to Bhadrachalam town is provided primarily by buses operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation and shared taxis.

Significance

The station is most prominent during the annual Sri Rama Navami celebrations at the Sri Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple in Bhadrachalam, when special trains and additional halts are arranged to manage the influx of pilgrims. It also handles substantial freight traffic linked to the coal industry of the Godavari valley coalfields.
