Bettiah railway station

Bettiah railway station (station code: BTH) is a railway station serving the town of Bettiah, the headquarters of West Champaran district in the Indian state of Bihar. It lies on the Narkatiaganj–Muzaffarpur line and is administered by the Samastipur division of the East Central Railway zone of Indian Railways.

Overview

The station is the principal rail head for Bettiah town and the surrounding rural areas of the Champaran region in north-western Bihar. It provides connectivity towards Narkatiaganj in the north and onward to Muzaffarpur Junction in the south, linking the area to the broader Indian Railways network.

Background

Bettiah has historical importance as the seat of the erstwhile Bettiah Raj and as a centre of the Champaran Satyagraha of 1917 led by Mahatma Gandhi. The railway line through the town was developed during the colonial period as part of the metre-gauge network in north Bihar, which was later converted to broad gauge as part of the Indian Railways' Project Unigauge.

The station handles passenger and express trains operating between stations in north Bihar and other parts of the country. Through trains from Bettiah connect with destinations including Patna, New Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai, in addition to local services along the Narkatiaganj–Muzaffarpur corridor.
