Overview

Bengaluru North University (BNU) is a state university located at Tamaka, near National Highway 75 in Kolar, Karnataka, India. It functions as an affiliating university serving colleges in the northern parts of the erstwhile Bangalore University jurisdiction.

The university was established in 2017 by the Government of Karnataka under the Karnataka State Universities (Amendment) Act, 2015. The legislation trifurcated the existing Bangalore University by creating two new universities, namely Bengaluru North University and Bengaluru Central University, the latter subsequently being renamed Bengaluru City University.

The reorganisation was undertaken to ease the administrative load of Bangalore University, which had a large number of affiliated colleges spread across Bengaluru and surrounding districts. Following the trifurcation, colleges falling within the designated northern region were brought under the affiliation of Bengaluru North University, with its headquarters established in Kolar.
