Belur Math railway station is a railway station situated in the Howrah district of West Bengal, India. It primarily serves the township of Belur and the famous Belur Math, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission founded by Swami Vivekananda. The station functions as a terminal halt on a short branch line that connects with the main suburban network of the Eastern Railway zone of Indian Railways.

The station is located close to the western bank of the Hooghly River, in proximity to the Belur Math monastic complex. It lies a short distance from the Howrah railway station, the main rail terminus of Kolkata, and is reached via a branch that diverges from the Howrah–Bardhaman main line in the Liluah area.

Services

Belur Math is served chiefly by suburban Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) local trains operated by Eastern Railway. Train frequency is closely linked to visitor traffic at Belur Math, with services typically being supplemented during festivals such as Durga Puja, Kali Puja, the birth anniversary of Sri Ramakrishna and the celebrations associated with Swami Vivekananda.

Significance

The station's primary importance lies in its role as a pilgrim and tourist gateway to Belur Math, one of the most visited religious sites in West Bengal. It enables devotees and visitors travelling from Howrah, Sealdah and other parts of the Kolkata metropolitan region to reach the monastery directly by suburban rail, in addition to road and ferry services across the Hooghly.
