Overview

Bekal Fort railway station is a railway station in the Kasaragod district of the Indian state of Kerala. It serves the historic Bekal Fort, one of the largest and best preserved forts in Kerala, and the surrounding coastal belt. The station lies on the Mangaluru–Shoranur railway line, a key segment of the Konkan-linked corridor along the western coast of India, and is administered by the Palakkad Railway Division of Southern Railway.

Location and access

The station is situated near Pallikkara, a short distance from the Bekal Fort and the Arabian Sea coastline. It is positioned between Kanhangad to the south and Kasaragod to the north on the same line. The station provides convenient access to tourist destinations along the northern Kerala coast, including Bekal beach, Kappil beach and Pallikkara backwaters.

Services

Bekal Fort is primarily a halt for passenger and selected express trains running between Mangaluru and destinations in Kerala such as Kannur, Kozhikode, Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram. Long-distance trains generally pass through without stopping, with major halts at Kasaragod and Kanhangad.

Significance

The station has gained importance as a gateway to the Bekal Fort and the broader Bekal tourism circuit promoted by the Bekal Resorts Development Corporation, an undertaking of the Government of Kerala. Its proximity to the fort and beaches makes it a convenient access point for domestic and international visitors.
