Overview
The station handles passenger traffic on the broad gauge route connecting Ajmer with destinations to the south and west, including Ahmedabad. Several long-distance mail and express trains as well as passenger services halt at Beawar, providing connectivity to major cities such as Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai and Jodhpur.
Background
Beawar developed in the nineteenth century as a trading town in the Merwara region and became an important commercial centre for cotton, wool and grain. The arrival of the railway during the colonial period reinforced this role by linking Beawar's markets with the ports of western India and with the inland metropolitan centres of north India. The line through Beawar was originally laid as a metre gauge route by the Rajputana–Malwa Railway system and was later converted to broad gauge under the Indian Railways' Project Unigauge programme.
Significance
Beawar is known historically for its trade in raw materials and for industries such as cement and mineral processing, and the railway station continues to support both passenger movement and the dispatch of goods from the area's industrial units. As one of the larger intermediate stations between Ajmer and the Gujarat border, it serves as a regional access point for travellers from western Rajasthan.
