The station is situated near the western bank of the Beas River, from which the town and the station take their name. Beas lies on the road and rail corridor connecting Amritsar to Jalandhar, and the station is roughly midway between these two larger cities. The surrounding region is part of the Majha cultural area of Punjab.

Beas is positioned on the busy Amritsar–Delhi trunk route, which forms part of the wider rail network linking Punjab with the National Capital Region and the rest of northern India. As a junction, the station also serves as the take-off point for a branch route running to Goindwal Sahib, providing rail access to areas of historical and religious importance in the doab between the Beas and Sutlej rivers.
The station handles a mix of long-distance express services, mail trains, and passenger services. Trains using the Amritsar–Delhi corridor that halt at Beas connect the town with cities including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ambala, New Delhi, and several destinations beyond.
