Background

The line through Batala forms part of the broad-gauge network developed in undivided Punjab during the colonial era to connect the major centres of the region with the rail trunk system. Significance

Batala is one of the larger industrial and commercial towns of the Majha region, known for its foundries and engineering workshops. The railway station provides an important link for commuters, traders and pilgrims, particularly those visiting religious sites in and around Batala, Qadian and Dera Baba Nanak.
