Background
The Jasidih–Dumka section was developed as part of efforts to extend rail connectivity into the Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand. The line links several towns of religious and administrative importance, including Deoghar, Basukinath and Dumka, the divisional headquarters of Santhal Pargana. Basukinath station was added to this route to facilitate access for pilgrims and local residents.
Services
The station handles passenger and a limited number of express services running between Jasidih, Dumka and Rampurhat. Pilgrim traffic increases significantly during the Shravani Mela, when special trains and additional halts are commonly arranged on the route by Eastern Railway.
Significance
Basukinath station is closely tied to the religious tourism economy of the surrounding region. The Basukinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, draws large numbers of kanwariyas who walk from Deoghar's Baidyanath Temple to Basukinath, and the railway station provides onward and return connectivity for many of these visitors.
