Baruva railway station is a railway station serving the town of Baruva in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It lies on the Howrah–Chennai main line, one of the busiest rail corridors in eastern India, and falls under the administrative jurisdiction of the Khurda Road railway division of the East Coast Railway zone of Indian Railways.

Location and setting

Baruva is a coastal town on the Bay of Bengal in the northern part of Srikakulam district, close to the Andhra Pradesh–Odisha border. The station provides rail access to the town and to nearby villages in Sompeta mandal, and it serves passengers travelling to the coastal hinterland between Visakhapatnam and Berhampur.

Line and connectivity

The station is situated on the electrified, double-line Howrah–Chennai trunk route, which connects Kolkata in West Bengal with Chennai in Tamil Nadu via the East Coast corridor. Adjacent stations on this line in the vicinity include Sompeta to the north and Naupada Junction to the south, the latter being the junction for the branch line to Gunupur in Odisha.

Administration

Following the reorganisation of Indian Railways zones, the section containing Baruva was placed under the East Coast Railway zone, which was created in 2003 with its headquarters at Bhubaneswar. The station is administered through the Khurda Road division of this zone.

Significance

As a halt on the Howrah–Chennai main line, Baruva railway station is a useful access point for the coastal town of Baruva, which is known for its beach and historical trading links. The station mainly handles passenger and express services that stop at smaller stations along the East Coast route, while long-distance superfast services typically pass through without halting.
