Overview

Barsoi Junction lies on the main railway corridor connecting the Indian heartland with the North-Eastern states via Katihar. The station is administered under the Katihar railway division of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), one of the seventeen zones of Indian Railways. It functions as a junction because a branch line diverges here towards Radhikapur in the Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal, while the main line continues between Katihar and Kishanganj.

Geography and connectivity

The station is situated in Barsoi, a town in the Katihar district close to the Bihar–West Bengal border. Trains passing through Barsoi connect destinations in Bihar, West Bengal, Assam and other parts of the North-East with major cities such as Patna, Kolkata, New Delhi and Guwahati. Local passenger services link the station with Katihar Junction, Kishanganj, Aluabari Road and Radhikapur.

Significance

Being one of the few junction stations in the Katihar–Kishanganj stretch, Barsoi serves as an important boarding and alighting point for travellers from the Seemanchal districts, including parts of Katihar, Kishanganj and the adjoining areas of West Bengal. The branch line to Radhikapur, which was converted from metre gauge to broad gauge as part of Indian Railways' Project Unigauge, has enhanced the station's role in regional connectivity.
