Overview
Barsana is a historical town and nagar panchayat in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Situated in the Braj region, it holds significant cultural and religious importance within the Hindu tradition, particularly for followers of Krishna and Radha.
According to Hindu tradition, Barsana is revered as the birthplace of the goddess Radha, who is regarded as the chief consort of Krishna. This association makes the town an important centre of devotion for Vaishnavas and pilgrims travelling through the Braj region.
The principal landmark of Barsana is the Radha Rani Temple, a historical shrine dedicated to the goddess. The temple draws a large number of devotees throughout the year and is considered one of the foremost places of worship associated with Radha.
Barsana forms an integral part of the wider Krishna pilgrimage circuit.
