Background
Bariarpur is a small town located on the southern bank of the Ganges in eastern Bihar. The station functions as a wayside halt on the route connecting Kiul Junction with Bhagalpur and onward to Sahibganj, providing rail access for residents of Bariarpur and adjoining villages.
Line and connectivity
The Sahibganj Loop, on which Bariarpur is situated, was among the earliest rail corridors developed in eastern India by the East Indian Railway Company in the nineteenth century. It links the Howrah–Delhi main line at Kiul with the Eastern Railway's network in Jharkhand and West Bengal. Adjacent stations on the route include those serving Jamalpur, Sultanganj and Bhagalpur, which act as the larger junctions in the corridor.
Significance
The station provides connectivity to passengers travelling for trade, education and pilgrimage in the Munger–Bhagalpur region. Bariarpur is also known locally for the Kalyaneshwari temple and as a starting point of the annual Shravani Mela kanwariya route towards Deoghar, with the railway station handling additional passenger movement during the festival season.
