Background

The station takes its name from Barabhum, a historical region in the Manbhum area that once formed part of a local zamindari. Location and connectivity

Barabhum lies between the major junctions of Adra in West Bengal and Chandil in Jharkhand. The route forms part of the broader rail network linking the industrial belts of Dhanbad, Bokaro and Jamshedpur with the Adra division, which is one of the operational divisions of the South Eastern Railway.

Significance

As a wayside station, Barabhum serves passengers from surrounding villages and provides connectivity for daily commuters, traders and pilgrims travelling within the Purulia–Singhbhum belt. The station is part of the regional rail infrastructure that supports access to district headquarters, educational institutions and markets in towns such as Purulia and Adra.
