Badlapur railway station

Overview

Badlapur railway station is a railway station serving the town of Badlapur in the Thane district of Maharashtra, India. It is part of the suburban rail network of Mumbai operated by Central Railway, a zone of the Indian Railways. The station lies on the Central Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway and also handles select long-distance and passenger services that pass through the Mumbai–Pune corridor.

Location and layout

The station is situated in Badlapur, a fast-growing residential town in the Ulhas river valley, between Ambernath and Karjat. It functions as a major originating and terminating point for suburban services on the Central Line, with several local trains starting or ending their runs here rather than continuing to Karjat. The station has multiple platforms catering to suburban EMU services as well as through trains.

Badlapur is served primarily by suburban electric multiple unit (EMU) trains running between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Karjat or Khopoli, with a significant number of services terminating at Badlapur. In addition, certain passenger and mail/express trains plying on the Mumbai–Pune route halt at the station.

Significance

The station has gained importance as Badlapur has expanded as a satellite township of Mumbai, with rapid growth in residential development on both the eastern and western sides of the line. As one of the terminating stations for suburban services on the Central Line, it plays a notable role in distributing commuter traffic on the busy Kalyan–Karjat section.
