Atul railway station lies on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad main line, one of the busiest rail corridors on the Western Railway network. The station primarily caters to local passenger traffic and to commuters travelling to and from the industrial township of Atul, which is closely associated with the chemical and dyestuff industries in southern Gujarat.

The station is situated in the southern part of Gujarat, in the Valsad district, between the larger junctions of Valsad and Vapi.
