Overview
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya is a public state university located in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, India. Formerly known as Bilaspur University, it was established through a gazette notification on 3 February 2012 under the Chhattisgarh Act No. 7 of 2012, the Chhattisgarh Vishwavidyalaya (Amendment) Act, 2011, and came into existence in June 2012.
The university initially functioned from the Old High Court premises in Bilaspur after the enactment of the legislation. It was subsequently shifted to its present campus at Koni, situated on the Bilaspur–Ratanpur Road in Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh.
It is a teaching-cum-affiliating university and operates six departments on its campus. The university affiliates more than 110 colleges across its jurisdiction, which together offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes in a range of disciplines.
According to a report published by Dainik Bhaskar, faculty positions for professors at the university were reported to be unfilled, with the report attributing the situation to the absence of approval from the State Government.
