Overview

Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), formerly known as Berry White Medical School, is a government medical college and hospital located in Dibrugarh, Assam. It holds the distinction of being the first medical college established in Assam and in the entire Northeast India region.

The institution functions as a tertiary medical referral centre, serving upper Assam and adjoining areas in neighbouring states, including Arunachal Pradesh. As a government-run facility, it combines medical education with patient care services for the region.

The college campus extends over 450 acres (180 hectares) and houses a range of academic and general facilities. Academic infrastructure includes laboratories and libraries, with Wi-Fi connectivity across the campus enabling internet access through PCs and laptops. The campus also provides sports facilities, canteens, ATMs and other amenities for students and staff.

AMCH has been ranked 62 in the list of government medical institutes and has received an "AAA+" rating from the National Medical Commission, with a score of 273.5. From 2019 onwards, the college admits 200 students each year for its undergraduate medical programme; prior to 2019, the annual intake was 170 students.
