Ashton Charles Agar (born 14 October 1993) is an Australian cricketer who has represented his country in all three formats of international cricket. A left-arm orthodox spin bowler and a capable lower-order batsman, Agar plays domestic cricket for Western Australia in first-class cricket and for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.

Overview

Agar is known primarily as a spin-bowling all-rounder. He has played five Test matches in his career, the first two of which came during the 2013 Ashes series in England. As a batsman lower in the order, he has registered three first-class centuries.

Career

Domestic cricket

Agar represents Western Australia in Australian domestic first-class cricket. In the Big Bash League, he plays for the Perth Scorchers, one of the most successful franchises in the competition.

International cricket

Agar made his Test debut for Australia during the 2013 Ashes series against England, and went on to play a total of five Test matches. He has also appeared for Australia in limited-overs internationals, representing the country across all formats of the international game.

2021 T20 World Cup

Agar was a member of the Australian squad that won the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The tournament marked Australia's first men's T20 World Cup title.

Significance

Agar is among a relatively small group of left-arm spinners to have represented Australia across all three international formats in the modern era. His ability to contribute with the bat in the lower order, evidenced by his three first-class centuries, complements his role as a frontline spin option in limited-overs cricket.
