Ashoknagar Road railway station is a small railway halt on the Sealdah–Bangaon line of the Eastern Railway zone of Indian Railways. It serves the township of Ashoknagar–Kalyangarh in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, India.

Overview

The station lies on the suburban corridor connecting Sealdah in central Kolkata with Bangaon, close to the India–Bangladesh border. It is one of several halts on the route serving the densely populated suburban belt to the north-east of Kolkata, and is primarily used by daily commuters travelling to and from the metropolitan area.

Location and surroundings

The station is situated in the Ashoknagar–Kalyangarh municipal area, a planned post-Partition township in North 24 Parganas. Habra and Guma stations lie on either side along the Sealdah–Bangaon corridor. The area around the station is residential, with local markets and road connectivity to State Highway routes linking it to Barasat, Habra and Bangaon.

Services

Ashoknagar Road is served by Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) local trains operated under the Kolkata Suburban Railway network. Trains on this section typically run between Sealdah and Bangaon, with some terminating at intermediate stations such as Habra or Barasat. Long-distance express trains using the route generally do not stop at this halt.

Infrastructure

The station has platforms serving the up and down lines of the double-tracked, electrified corridor. Standard suburban facilities such as ticket counters and platform shelters are provided for commuter use.

Significance

As part of the Sealdah–Bangaon line, the station contributes to one of the busiest suburban rail corridors in eastern India. The line plays a central role in the daily movement of office-goers, students and traders between the northern suburbs and Kolkata, and also forms part of the broader rail link towards the Petrapole–Benapole border crossing with Bangladesh.
