Overview
Ashok Sharma (c. 1959 – 3 August 2022) was an Indian politician from Dholpur district in the state of Rajasthan. He was associated with the Indian National Congress until 2018, after which he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Sharma belonged to a prominent political family of Rajasthan. He was the eldest son of Banwari Lal Sharma, who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) on five occasions and held office as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Rajasthan. The family is identified as part of the Jagan political grouping, which has had a longstanding presence in the politics of the Dholpur region.
Within Rajasthan's political landscape, Sharma was recognised for his engagement with Brahmin community politics. His shift from the Congress to the BJP in 2018 placed him among a number of regional figures who realigned their party affiliations during that period.
Ashok Sharma died on 3 August 2022.
