Background
Dinda was born in a village in the Paschim Medinipur (West Midnapore) district of West Bengal. He came from a modest rural background and worked his way through age-group and club cricket in Bengal before earning a place in the senior state side. His pace and aggression set him apart in domestic cricket, where conditions in eastern India often favour spin over fast bowling.
Domestic career
Dinda made his first-class debut for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy and went on to become one of the most prolific seam bowlers in the state's history. He was a regular member of the Bengal squad across the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for over a decade. In the latter stages of his career he also turned out for Goa in domestic cricket.
Indian Premier League
Dinda has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for several franchises, including the Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers, Pune Warriors India and Rising Pune Supergiant. He was used primarily as a strike bowler in the powerplay and at the death.
International career
Dinda earned his first call-up to the India squad in 2010. He played in ODIs and T20Is, featuring against opponents including Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, England and Pakistan. Although he was part of the Indian limited-overs setup on multiple tours, he was unable to establish himself as a regular member of the side and his international appearances were spread across a few seasons before he returned to focusing on domestic cricket.
Style and significance
Dinda was regarded as one of the leading fast bowlers produced by Bengal in the post-2000 era, and was a key figure in the state team's bowling attack for several years. His career highlighted the steady stream of seam-bowling talent emerging from eastern India and inspired younger cricketers from non-metropolitan backgrounds in West Bengal.
Retirement
Dinda announced his retirement from all forms of professional cricket in 2022, ending a domestic career that spanned more than a decade and a half.
