Background

Annu Kapoor was born in Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh and spent his early years in Bhopal. He trained as an actor at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, one of India's premier theatre training institutions, where he developed the strong stagecraft that later defined his screen work. Early film work

Kapoor made his feature film debut with Shyam Benegal's Mandi (1983), an ensemble film notable for its parallel cinema sensibility. He subsequently appeared in films such as Jolly LLB (2013), The Shaukeens (2014), Dream Girl (2019) and its sequel Dream Girl 2 (2023), and Hamare Baarah (2024).
