Annavaram railway station (station code: ANV) is a railway station serving the temple town of Annavaram in the Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It lies on the Howrah–Chennai main line and is operated by the Vijayawada railway division of the South Coast Railway zone of Indian Railways.

Overview

Annavaram station is best known for serving pilgrims visiting the Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy Temple, situated on Ratnagiri hill near the town. The shrine is one of the most visited Vaishnavite temples in coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the railway station forms one of the principal access points to it, alongside road connectivity from National Highway 16.

Location and layout

The station is located between Tuni and Pithapuram on the trunk route connecting Visakhapatnam with Vijayawada. It is positioned in the East Godavari region, in the plains south of the Eastern Ghats, with the Pampa river flowing nearby. The station has multiple platforms with standard passenger amenities including waiting halls, booking counters and reservation facilities.

Services

As a halt on a busy double-line, electrified corridor, Annavaram is served by passenger and several express trains running between major cities of eastern and southern India. Stoppage at the station is generally provided to facilitate temple pilgrimage traffic, particularly during festivals such as Kalyanotsavam and on auspicious days for performing the Satyanarayana Vratam.

Significance

Annavaram station's importance is closely tied to religious tourism. Pilgrim footfall increases sharply on Ekadashi, full-moon days and during major festivals, when additional services and special trains are sometimes operated to and from the station. It also functions as a local railhead for the surrounding mandals in the Kakinada district.
