Overview
Angadipuram station is one of the intermediate stops on the single-track Shoranur Junction–Nilambur Road branch line, which runs roughly 66 kilometres through the Bharathappuzha and Kadalundi river valleys in central Kerala. The station serves the town of Angadipuram, which is also a centre of pilgrimage owing to the nearby Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavathy Temple.
Background
The Shoranur–Nilambur branch line was constructed during the British colonial period, primarily to facilitate the transport of teak and other forest produce from the Nilambur region to the main Madras–Mangalore trunk corridor at Shoranur Junction. Angadipuram developed as a stop along this line, providing rail access to the surrounding areas of Perinthalmanna and parts of the Valluvanad region.
Layout and services
The station has a small number of platforms and handles passenger services along the branch line. Most trains operating through Angadipuram are passenger services connecting Nilambur Road with Shoranur Junction, with several extending onward to destinations such as Kozhikode, Palakkad, and beyond. Express services are limited, with the line primarily serving short-distance commuter and rural traffic.
Connectivity
Angadipuram station is located close to the town of Perinthalmanna, a major commercial and educational centre in Malappuram district. Road connections from the station link it with NH 966 and other state highways, making it a useful access point for travellers heading to nearby towns and pilgrimage sites.
