Overview
The station lies on the eastern arc of the Pink Line, the longest corridor of the Delhi Metro network. Because of its proximity to a major railway terminal and an inter-state bus terminus, Anand Vihar is among the busier interchange points in the network, particularly serving passengers travelling to and from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and other neighbouring states.
History
Anand Vihar metro station was opened as part of the Pink Line, which was constructed under Phase III of the Delhi Metro project. The section of the Pink Line connecting Anand Vihar with adjoining stations became operational during the phased commissioning of Line 7 by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, expanding orbital connectivity across Delhi without requiring transit through the central interchange stations.
Layout and facilities
The station is built as an elevated structure with two side platforms serving trains in either direction. Standard Delhi Metro facilities are available, including automatic fare collection gates, ticket vending machines, escalators, lifts for differently-abled passengers, and security screening at the entry concourse. Foot-over-bridge and pedestrian linkages connect the metro station with the railway terminal and the ISBT.
Connections
- Indian Railways: Anand Vihar Terminal, one of the principal railway terminals of the National Capital Region.
- Road transport: Anand Vihar Inter-State Bus Terminus, serving long-distance buses to Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and other states; local Delhi Transport Corporation and cluster bus services.
- Adjacent area: Kaushambi (Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh) lies immediately east of the station precinct.
Significance
As one of the few stations in Delhi where a metro line, a major railway terminal and an inter-state bus terminus converge in a single precinct, Anand Vihar functions as a key gateway between Delhi and the eastern parts of the National Capital Region. The Pink Line interchange has reduced dependence on road-based feeder modes and improved access to the terminal complex for commuters from across the city.
