Overview

The station is one of several stops planned along the southern corridor of the Pune Metro that connects the Sinhagad Road belt with the central parts of the city. It is designed as an elevated facility, in keeping with the typical configuration of stations along the city's metro alignment outside the central business district.

Background

The Pune Metro project was approved by the Government of India and is being implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra. The first two lines, the Purple Line (PCMC to Swargate) and the Aqua Line (Vanaz to Ramwadi), were sanctioned to address the rising travel demand in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Subsequent line extensions, including corridors towards Hinjawadi and along Sinhagad Road, expanded the network into newer suburbs.

Location and connectivity

Anand Nagar is a residential and commercial neighbourhood situated along Sinhagad Road in south-western Pune. The area is served by city bus services operated by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), and the metro station is intended to integrate with feeder bus routes and intermediate public transport to improve last-mile connectivity for commuters travelling towards Swargate, the Pune Railway Station and other major destinations.

Significance

The station is part of efforts to extend organised mass transit to the high-density southern corridor of Pune, which has historically depended on road-based transport. Stations such as Anand Nagar are expected to support transit-oriented development along Sinhagad Road and reduce private vehicle dependence in the area.
