Ambur is a town situated along the Palar river in the Tirupathur district of northern Tamil Nadu. The railway station is located within the town and connects it to nearby population centres including Vaniyambadi, Jolarpettai, Vellore and Katpadi to the east, and Bengaluru and Bangarapet to the west.
