Amanatullah Khan

Amanatullah Khan is an Indian politician associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He represents the Okhla Assembly constituency in the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. He has also held office as the Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board.

Background

Khan rose to political prominence in Delhi through grassroots mobilisation in the Okhla area, a constituency in the South East district of Delhi that includes neighbourhoods such as Jamia Nagar, Batla House, Shaheen Bagh, Abul Fazal Enclave and parts of Sangam Vihar. The constituency has a sizeable Muslim population and is one of the larger urban assembly seats in the capital.

Political career

Khan contested the Delhi Legislative Assembly election as a candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party from Okhla and was elected as MLA. He retained the seat in subsequent Delhi Assembly elections, becoming one of the long-serving representatives of the constituency. During his tenure he has been associated with civic and welfare issues in his constituency, including matters relating to municipal services, education and minority welfare.

In addition to his legislative work, Khan was appointed Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board, the statutory body that manages waqf properties in the National Capital Territory.

As the MLA from Okhla, Khan represents one of the prominent constituencies in Delhi and has been among the visible Muslim legislators of the Aam Aadmi Party.
