Background
Amalapuram is the headquarters of the Konaseema district, formed in 2022 when Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district was carved out of the erstwhile East Godavari district. The town lies in the Godavari delta and has historically depended on road transport, with the nearest major railway connections at Kakinada and Rajahmundry. The proposed railway station is part of a broader plan to extend a branch line through the delta region, improving access for residents and the local economy, which is centred on agriculture, coconut cultivation, and aquaculture.
Significance
Once operational, the station is expected to provide direct rail access to a part of the Godavari delta that has long lacked railway infrastructure. It is anticipated to support the movement of passengers and agricultural produce, and to strengthen connectivity between Konaseema district and the wider rail network in coastal Andhra Pradesh.
