Overview
The station lies on the southern segment of the Red Line, which runs between Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in the south and Munshipulia in the north. Its placement adjacent to the Alambagh ISBT makes it a key transit node for passengers moving between intra-city metro travel and inter-city bus services to destinations across Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states.
History
Construction of the Lucknow Metro was undertaken by the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation, later restructured as the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation. The southern stretch of the Red Line, including Alambagh ISBT, was part of the priority section that was opened to the public, with full North–South Corridor commercial operations commencing in March 2019. The station was designed as an elevated facility in line with the rest of the southern viaduct of the corridor.
Station layout
The station follows the standard elevated three-level configuration used across the Lucknow Metro:
- Ground level: Entry/exit, station access and connection to the ISBT forecourt.
- Concourse level: Ticket counters, automatic fare collection gates, customer care and security check.
- Platform level: Two side platforms serving trains in either direction along the Red Line.
Connections
The station is integrated with the Alambagh ISBT, which handles state transport and private inter-city bus services. City buses operated by Lucknow City Transport Services, auto-rickshaws and taxis are also available from the surrounding area, supporting last-mile connectivity.
Significance
By linking the metro network directly with the city's largest inter-state bus terminus, Alambagh ISBT plays an important role in reducing dependence on private vehicles for airport- and bus-bound trips, and in easing traffic congestion along the Kanpur Road corridor. It is among the busier stations on the southern half of the Red Line owing to the bus traffic it serves.
