Overview

Mahamarakkala Kurukulasooriya Patabendige Akila Dananjaya Perera (born 4 October 1993), popularly known as Akila Dananjaya, is a Sri Lankan professional cricketer. He has represented the Sri Lankan national team across all formats of the game.

Dananjaya featured in a notable episode in March 2021, when he became the first bowler to take a hat-trick and concede the maximum of six sixes in an over in the same match. The six sixes were struck by Kieron Pollard during a fixture against the West Indies.

His international career has also been marked by scrutiny of his bowling action. In December 2018, he was suspended from bowling in international matches after his action was deemed illegal. The action was subsequently remodelled, and he was cleared to play in March 2019. In September 2019, however, the International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended him from bowling in international matches for twelve months, after he failed a biomechanics assessment for a second time within a two-year period. He was cleared to bowl in international cricket once again on 8 January 2021.
