Background
Tamta hails from the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, a Himalayan state in northern India formed in 2000 after being carved out of Uttar Pradesh. The Almora constituency, which he represents in the Lok Sabha, is a reserved seat for Scheduled Castes and covers parts of the Kumaon division, including the districts of Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat and Pithoragarh.
