Background

Ajay Singh Yadav hails from the Ahirwal region of southern Haryana, an area covering parts of the Rewari, Mahendragarh and Gurgaon districts. He is the son of Rao Abhay Singh, a senior Congress leader from the same region, and political activity has been a part of his family tradition. His electoral base lies in and around the town of Rewari.

Political career

Yadav has been elected to the Haryana Legislative Assembly from the Rewari constituency on the Indian National Congress ticket in several elections. During the Congress governments led by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda between 2005 and 2014, he served as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Haryana, holding portfolios that included Finance, Power, Excise and Taxation, and Forests at various points.
